Governor Mike Sonko Invites Nairobians for Monthly Clean-Up Exercise

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday invited all Nairobians to a monthly clean-up exercise that will be held in all 85 wards in the county.

Through his social media, the county head announced; "Nairobi County Government staff, MCAs and I invite all members of the public for a joint maiden monthly clean-up and beautification exercise tomorrow in all 85 Wards.

"The exercise will from tomorrow be held every first Saturday of each month in all 85 Wards. A clean environment is a collective responsibility of all citizens."

His statement was however not well received by a section of Nariobians who lamented what the taxes paid were being used for.

"We pay Nairobi rates and clean with our hands again?" one user posted.

Another noted; "You have been launching garbage collection and cleaning since you got into office. How come the city is still not clean?"

"Why can’t our attitudes and behaviour be programmed to understand that cleanliness is not an event? What good does a single day in a month do if people won’t stop littering? This isn’t a solution but a typical knee-jerk reaction," one Nairobian stated.

Another was more interested to know how the governor would keep the public toilets free upon his announcement that they were now free to use.

"First, explain how you intend to maintain the cleanliness of toilets in town now that you said we do not pay?" the Kenyan posed.
