An Assistant Chief from Olepito sub-county, Busia, collapsed and died in a suspicious incident that took place during the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final match between Belgium and France.

Mr Stanislaus Ekisa was pronounced dead at the Nambale Sub-county Hospital in Busia County where he had been rushed for emergency treatment.

"I was called and told to go to (the shopping) centre, Nambale, as my husband had been rushed there after collapsing.

"My husband was pronounced dead at the hospital. I was told he never uttered a word," Mary related.

A family member added: "We want to know whether the death was caused by illness or something else."

Residents of the area described the man as a humble and diligent administrator while raising concerns of insecurity in the area.

A boda-boda operator told the Standard that his brother, Daniel Okware, was recently murdered and dumped in a maize plantation.

"He was hit by a blunt object on the head and his motorbike stolen. We are worried because criminals are roaming the town," James Barasa recounted.
