Celebrated journalist Larry Madowo celebrated his 31st birthday party at the Radisson Blu hotel in Nairobi with famous media personalities on Friday night.
The private affair saw his family and friends in attendance who included K24’s Ciru Muriuki, NTV’s news anchor Trevor Ombija and his fashion blogger sister Liz Madowo.
Bonney Tunya, a former KTN presenter who’s now working with CNBC Africa wished Larry a happy birthday saying:”To my good man Larry, here’s to wishing you a very happy birthday, break things!”
Capital FM’s Cess Mutungi was also in attendance. Ciru Muriuki poked fun at Larry’s Swahili reporting nudging him with the words, “Ningetaka uhotubie Wakenya...(I’d like you to address Kenyans...)”
Earlier this year, Madowo exited NTV after an issue with independent reporting at the media house. He then moved to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) where he was made the head of the African Business desk.

On leaving NTV he wrote on social media:“I leave NTV as I came: humbled & grateful. The job was one of the great honours of my life. Thanks to everyone who watched, and to Nation for the privilege of the opportunity. I’m proud of my amazing colleagues & everything we accomplished. Farewell, my friends. Stay woke.”
He started his career at KTN as an intern where his focus was on business. He then moved to CNBC Africa based in South Africa before joining NTV.
He had created a huge following on The Trend which is one of NTV’s flagship shows. He had also been featured as a writer on the Daily Nation where his Front Row column had sparked debates online on several occasions.
Madowo showed early signs of working for international media when his work started getting published on America’s Washington Post. Soon after, he stopped writing his Nation column.
He eventually left the station after reportedly facing arrest when NTV defied the directive not to air Raila Odinga’s swearing in.
