Maseno University Students Shot by Gunmen in World Cup Finals Night Out

Two University students were on Sunday night attacked by unknown gunmen when leaving a popular entertainment joint after watching the 2018 World Cup final match.

The attackers shot the two Maseno University students at Nyawita area near the institution's Siriba Campus.

Kisumu West OCPD Wilston Mwakio has confirmed the attack stating that no arrests have been made yet.

“The two students were shot in Nyawita, an area behind the University’s Siriba Campus. The incident occurred a few moments after the World Cup final match which a number of the students were watching. They shot the students and took away their phones,”  Mwakio confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke.

Eugine Ndombi and one identified as Vincent, who are second and third-year students at the institution, are receiving treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu following the incident.

The student’s union chairperson Mike Odoyo who accompanied them to the hospital confirmed the two have gunshot injuries.

One suffered on the arm while the other was shot in the chest with the bullet going into his arm.

“We are saddened to learn of the incident that happened at Nyawita last evening. Students were from watching the World Cup finals and they were attacked and robbed by thugs. We are awaiting x~rays results to ascertain the nature of their injuries,” regretted Odoyo.

Mr Mwakio stated that the attackers are believed to have fled to the neighboring Luanda market in Vihiga County.
