Al Hijra Group Listed as a Terrorist Organization

The US has listed a Nairobi based group as a terrorist organization and denied members access into the country.

The announcement made on Thursday states that the group dubbed Al Hijra is a Kenyan-wing of Alshabaab.

“Terrorism designations expose and isolate organizations and individuals and deny them access to US financial system,” the State Department mentioned.

Report by officials noted that the organization was formed in 2008.

The group reportedly comprises Al Shabaab followers in Kenya, Somali and other sympathizers from East Africa.

“It has openly engaged in Al Shabaab recruitment in Kenya and has facilitated travel of Al Shabaab members to Somali for terrorism purposes,” the statement added.

It is alleged that individuals connected to the group helped carry out Westgate attacks in 2013 and Garissa University massacre in 2015 where 147 students were murdered.

Other affiliates of the Somali-based terrorist organization are MRC and Al Muhajiroun, they assist the organization push its war agenda.

The State Department also indicated that it has listed Al Shabaab as a global terrorist organization after the completion of a five-year review of its operations.

Harakat Al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen (HSM) popularly known as Al Shabaab dispersed from the horn of Africa after KDF and AMISOM forces were deployed to the region.

Translated from Arabic the name HSM means Movement of Striving Youth.
