A section of MPs has indicated that it won't take part in the vetting of former Kenya Power CEO Ben Chumo’s as the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairman scheduled for Monday.
The legislators revealed that this is due to his pending criminal case in court.
“I refuse to be part of this ill thought exercise, it will only harden those who support corruption,” Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir noted.

The National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai, however, indicated that the exercise will go on as planned.
“So far we have not received any communication from the nominee wishing not to be vetted. This means the exercise will go on as planned on Monday from 10 am.
“The committee will recommend to the house on the suitability of the nominee based on the evidence it will gather over his integrity issues and ability to deliver,” he continued.
The Committee is chaired by Kipkelion East MP Joseph Limo and has the final word on his appointment.
Last week, Chumo was arraigned in court over abuse of office, conspiracy to commit economic crime and failure to comply with procurement laws during his tenure as KPLC boss.
Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogodi granted him a bail of Ksh1 Million together with other top KPLC officials including Ken Tarus and Company Secretary Beatrice Meso.
The pretrial was scheduled for August 6.
