National Lands Commission Chairperson Mohammed Swazuri has put at least 200 persons on notice over the illegal acquisition of large tracts of public land in Kitale.
In a public notice dated July 20, 2018, NCL has asked President Uhuru’s confidant and Jubilee Party close advisor Noah Wekesa and a host of Trans Nzoia County politicians to vacate the land or prepare for eviction in 90 days.

“Upon complaints from the County government and the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Lands Commission investigated and confirmed that the underlisted properties were illegally and irregularly alienated from the two complainants,” the notice reads in part.
Mr. Wekesa is listed as irregularly occupying 10 hectares of the controversial land, the largest portion after that under the Kitale Technical Training College (84.415 Hectares) and one Hon Jimmy Choge.
“The subject parcels partly fall within Block 6 and 7 of the Kitale Municipality, starting from the County Commissioner’s office all the way to Kitale National Polytechnic including Lavington Estate and its surrounding areas,” states the lands commission.
Kitale Municipal Sacco and Harambee Sacco are facing the probe on the leases of at least 30 hectares of land that each has been occupying in Kitale town.
The suspects have been required to prove ownership and rightful occupation of the parcels within 14 days and prepare to vacate the said land in 90 days of the notice.
