Land Rover, Porsche Most Purchased Cars From Kenyan Showrooms

Data analysed from the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMI) has revealed that most Kenyans are buying Porsche and Land Rover models of cars from showrooms.

The data recorded between January and June 2018 revealed that the two brands were the most sought-after luxury brands in a buying surge that has been attributed to the peaceful conclusion to the 2017 election season.

Sales of the new luxury cars experienced a 16.1 percent jump during the six months. There was also an overall increase in car sales during the period.

Dealers managed to sell 137 units of the luxury cars compared to 118 sold in the same period in 2017.

RMA Group, the authorized dealer for Jaguar Land Rover in Kenya, sold 48 models in the review period compared to 29 units the year before.

Sales of Jaguars more than doubled to 15 from seven while Porsche Centre Nairobi’s sales of its models increased to 30 from 17.

Some luxury brands, however, recorded a dip in sales, point in case, Bavaria Auto who sold 11 BMWs compared to 22 the previous year.

The Mercedes range of cars also recorded a drop in units sold from 39 to 29. DT Dobie as well recorded a drop in the sale of the Grand Cherokee from four to two.

Bently Nairobi was hardest hit with zero sales in the first six months of the year compared to the sale of three in the first half of the previous year.

Toyota, though not a luxury brand, recorded the highest unit sales form 1,336 in 2017 to 1,590 in 2018.

The fastest-moving models at Simba Corporation included the Hiace minivans, Hilux pick-ups and Land Cruiser sport utility vehicles (SUV).
