Fire Razes Down Stalls in Uhuru Market [VIDEO]

A fire that broke out at Uhuru market along Jogoo Road razed down property of unknown value.

The fire damaged stalls in the market leaving traders grappling with the losses they had incurred from the fire.

Traders in the market stated that they were not sure what started the fire which spread out fast to other stalls.

The fire brigade was at the scene and traders were pleading with them to contain the inferno before it got worse.

In 2011 traders at Uhuru market lost their property in a similar incident which saw goods of unknown value razed down by the fire.

The incident comes barely a month after at least 15 people died and more than 60 injured after a night fire, once again, gutted a section of Gikomba market.

Some of the victims were burned in the Gikomba fire while others choked after inhaling poisonous fumes as they battled to save and salvage their property.

President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered police to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed property worth millions at Nairobi’s Gikomba Market.

"The incident has displaced many traders from all over the country and investigations should be launched to find the culprits and action be taken against them," the Head of State stated.

“The Government will stand with the affected traders by building the market to enable them to continue with their business,” he added.
