AP Officers Pursue Criminal Into Manguo Swamp in Limuru [VIDEO]

On Thursday, Limuru residents and motorists along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway were treated to a movie-like scene when Administration Police officers pursued a wanted criminal into Manguo swamp.

Motorists abandoned their cars in the middle of the road to watch two brave officers swim across the 2km swamp in pursuit of a robbery with violence suspect.

They blocked each other as others overlapped causing a snarl up on the highway according to a video shared by the Star.

The officers had been chasing the suspect for a while and when he started wading across the 5ft deep marsh, they both removed their clothes and jumped in the cold water.

AP commander Gitonga Gathumi revealed that the suspect was involved in a series of robberies at Kwambira, Kamirithu, Ngarariga, Manguo and Limuru town.

“We were looking for two suspects who have been involved in a series of robberies. He was mentioned last week in a case in which a teacher was robbed,” he noted.

He also indicated that other gang members had been apprehended earlier.

“When this suspect ran away his colleague was arrested and handcuffed,” he noted.

Gathumi stated that the suspects would be handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers for further probe.

“The two officers are brave. The water is so cold and the surface of the swamp is slippery. They had not prepared to swim,” a resident Milkah Njeri was quoted.

The locals urged the government to commend the officers citing they went out of their way in arresting the suspect.
