Journalist Arrested for Impersonating NIS Detective

A former radio presenter has been arraigned in court for impersonating an NIS officer and defrauding government officials off hundreds of thousands.

Michael Njoroge Wairimu an ex-reporter of popular Kameme FM was trailed and arrested at Kasarani Estate by the elite squad.

The 34-year-old was dismissed from the station in 2010 under unclear circumstances.

According to police, he had been using the officer's name to collect money from police bosses, government ministries and even the Attorney General’s office.

The officials whom Njoroge conned offered him bribes believing he was a detective who could potentially expose them.

Reports indicated he was collecting as much as KSh 50,000 from clients who required his ‘detective’ services.

He was also found in possession of documents relating to the ongoing Kenya Power tender case still in court.

His arrest comes days after since another imposter, Moses Muigai Ngugi was apprehended with tens of identity cards, two firearms and 700 bullets in Syokimau.

Attention was drawn to Muigai after businessman Francis Mburu alleged that he tried to fleece him of Kshs.10 Million to help settle the Ruaraka land case.

During his arrest, Muigai neither denied nor accepted that he was working with the government and vaguely admitting that he was somewhat associated with the NIS.
