Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore on Monday announced his resumption of duties after being away from the limelight following an extended medical leave.

"I'm back. Thanks to everyone who supported me over the past 9 months especially the clinical team at University College London Hospitals (UCLH).

"Thanks to my superb Safaricom team and of course my wife Wambui Kamiru," Collymore tweeted.

Following the announcement, the Safaricom team cordially welcomed Collymore back: "Good to have you back Sir. We are so excited".

The Safaricom boss was shortly thereafter photographed inside the National Assembly appearing before the Parliamentary Communications Committee.

Flanked by other top officials from the communication giant, Collymore was appearing before the committee to address legislative and regulatory gaps affecting competition in the telecommunications sector.

In April, the CEO who was undergoing specialized treatment in London expressed his longing to resume his duties at Safaricom as soon as the medics allowed him to do so.

"It is unfortunate that my condition can't be monitored in Nairobi and my doctors will not allow me to travel by air until they give me a clean bill of health," Collymore stated in a video link address.
