Claims that Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua had been arrested by officers from the EACC were dispelled after pictures of him emerged online.
Governor Mutua was pictured with former Senator Johnstone Muthama attending the memorial service of his advisor the Late Mzee Samuel Mbova.
Reports had been peddled online that the Machakos County boss had been nabbed by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission while leaving an interview with a local radio station.
Dr Mutua, however, tweeted, "At St. Austin’s Catholic church for the memorial service of my advisor the Late Mzee Samuel Mbova. Linked up with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo and Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba. Service about to begin."

The late Mzee Mbova passed on the 29th of July 2018 at the Nairobi Hospital. He was also a former Permanent Secretary.
The claims of Governor Mutua's arrest were circulated amid the ongoing questioning of former Nairobi County boss Evans Kidero who spent the night in custody.
EACC has stated that it had been conducting investigations into allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, bribery, conflict of interest and failure to protect public property against Dr Kidero and the others.
Pursuant to Section 35 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, the commission then submitted a report to the DPP on the results of the investigations through a letter on July 13.
Upon review of the report and recommendations, the office of the DPP confirmed on Wednesday it concurred with EACC that there was sufficient evidence to charge the suspects with several offences of corruption and economic crimes.

In March, a damning report by audit firm KPMG, which covered revenue, debts, cash and banking as well as assets, indicated that Ksh21 billion was not accounted for by Dr Kidero when he left office.
The matter had been the subject of discussion after the High Court in June ruled that EACC had investigative powers on economic crimes.
Justices George Odunga, Chacha Mwita and John Mativo dismissed two cases challenging some provisions of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
