Special Job Ezekiel Mutua did for Kofi Annan

Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board Dr. Ezekiel Mutua revealed that he once worked closely with the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Through a tweet which celebrated Kofi Annan who passed away on Saturday morning, Dr. Mutua stated that he was an aide to the former UN secretary-general.

"One of the highest moments in my career is when I was assigned by the Government to serve as an aide to Kofi Annan during the mediation process to end the 2007/8 PEV in Kenya," Dr. Mutua wrote.

"The world has lost a great peace champion and scholar. RIP," the KFCB boss added.

The former UN secretary general died at the age of 80 after a short illness, his family and foundation announced.

Annan was the seventh secretary-general and served for two terms between 1997 and 2006 during which he was awarded the Nobel peace prize for his humanitarian work jointly with the UN as an organisation in 2001.

President Uhuru Kenyatta joined leaders around the world in mourning the death of Kofi Annan.

In a statement on Saturday, President Kenyatta stated: "In this moment of sorrow, I condole with his family, relatives and friends. My thoughts and prayers go out to them as they come to terms with this sad news."

Other leaders who sent condolence messages were ODM party leader Raila Odinga and former President Daniel Arap Moi.

Odinga acknowledged Annan's role in helping Kenya pull itself out of the 2007/2008 post-election violence pit it had sunk itself into.
