Shiro of Auntie Boss Awarded Best Actress in Comedy/ TV series at AMVCA 2018

Auntie Boss Actress Nyce Wanjeri AKA Shiro was on Saturday night bagged the Best Actress in a Comedy and TV series Award at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2018.

Accepting her award during the event’s 6th edition in Lagos Nigeria, Wanjeri acknowledged her humble beginnings and the people who supported her in her acting career.

"Thank you to my husband, my daughter and family for being my fans... and my fans this is for you. Kenya, we did it," she stated.

Overwhelmed by the recognition, Wanjeri also thanked her co-stars and the producers of her sitcom.

"Oh my God! First of all God ni mso (God is big) and I want to thank everyone who voted. This is my first time to board a plane and I came to Nigeria and my first time to win an award," she proclaimed.

After her victory, Kenyan productions outfoxed a competitive list of nominees and went on to scoop five more awards.

Phoebe Ruguru pulled off a double win with the film 18 Hours taking home the Best Overall Movie and Best Movie East Africa.

In her acceptance speech, she conveyed; “This is a clear indication that even with all our diversity we can all speak one language and we can understand that language to be filmed.

"So congratulations to all the other nominees, may we continue telling our own stories and sharing them and using them as a way of honouring our history.”

Also feted was Mark Maina who received the Best Picture Editor for the film 18 hours.

Super Modo by Sarika Hemi Lhakani emerged the best Indigenous Language Movie or TV Series in Swahili.

Dennis Wanjohi bagged the Best Documentary Award for his one-hour masterpiece ‘The Flesh Business’ a feature focusing on the underage prostitution in Mombasa and the wider Coast region.
