Armed Robbers Steal Money at Petrol Station in Oyugis

Eight armed men on Monday robbed a petrol station in Oyugis, Homa Bay county and made away with cash of unknown value.

According to the security guards stationed at the petrol station, the gang ambushed them at 3 am and demanded for money.

Two of the robbers were armed with AK-47 rifles and wore police uniforms while the other six had crude weapons.

The robbers tied the guard's hands with sisal rope and proceeded to steal the cash.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum explained that they are still following leads that will help them arrest the suspects.

“The money was from the previous day’s sales but they have not approximated how much it was,” remarked the Police Commander.

He further added that the suspects had fled by the time the police arrived at the scene.

Petrol stations have become a target for gangsters with a number of such incidents being reported in various areas.

In September 2017, gunmen raided a petrol station in broad daylight in South B and made away with money worth Sh 98,000.

The CCTV camera at the station captured the incident which lasted for more than a minute.

The gunmen forced the employees to lie on the ground and proceeded to steal from them.

After the ordeal, the employees recorded statements at the Industrial Area Police Station.

Another incident in 2016 left a station attendant injured after being shot during the robbery on Bunyala Road in Nairobi.

The police reported that the attendant was shot after refusing to surrender the money. The gang later made away with Sh 10,000 from the victim.
