Governor Okoth Obado's Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo to Remain in Custody

The court on Thursday ruled that Migori Governor Okoth Obado's Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo will remain in custody until Monday, September 17.

This comes after the police managed to get an order to detain him further pending investigations into the kidnap of Nation journalist Barrack Oduor and Sharon Otieno who was later found dead.

Officers conducting the investigation argued that they needed more than the 24 hours before producing him in court noting that the case was complex.

The detectives explained this while presenting the application to abide by the law which requires that a suspect should not be detained in police cells beyond 24 hours.

This prompted the investigators to appeal to the court to have the suspect detained for an additional 14 days after the day of the arrest pending investigations.

The appeal, granted by Homa Bay Deputy Registrar Lester Simiyu, means that Oyamo, who was apprehended in Uriri, Migori on Tuesday will appear in court till Monday.

Oyamo was arrested following the kidnapping of Oduor but the case developed after Ms Otieno's body was discovered in Kodera forest.

Oduor had a lucky break as he managed to kick open the door before throwing himself out of the moving vehicle the kidnappers had them in.

Much as he was lucky to escape, he suffered injuries to his hands and knees.
