Raila Leads Kenyans to Kasarani as Stars Face Ghana

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga led other Kenyans in their hundreds to the Kasarani stadium on Saturday as Harambee Stars hosted Ghana's Black Stars in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier.

Mr Odinga arrived at the stadium in a chopper amid cheers from the fans who had already booked their places to watch Harambee Stars play the West African football giants.

The Stars played without midfielder and Tottenham star Victor Wanyama who took it to social media wishing his teammates the best outcome in the qualifier match for the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.

The last time Harambee Stars qualified for Africa Cup Of Nations (AfCoN) was in 2004.

UPDATE 1723HRS: Ten-man Harambee Stars trounced Ghana with a Michael Olunga inspired own goal to take up a top spot in the group.

Stars defender Joash Onyango was red-carded from the match in the 67th minute.

Earlier in the day Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko appealed to members of the public to fill up the stadium in support for the national team.

"I wish Harambee Stars success in their match against Black Stars of Ghana in the AFCON qualifiers later this afternoon.

"I’m urging Nairobians to turn out in large numbers and cheer our national team at the Kasarani National Stadium," Sonko wrote on his social media.

After the Saturday clash, Stars are set to play Ethiopia in Addis Ababa before hosting Sierra Leone in Nairobi later in the year.

Ghana and Sierra Leon tie in command at the top of Group F of the qualifier matches with 3 points apiece. 

Both Kenya and Ethiopia had not secured a point in the first round matches.
