Homa Bay Law Court Denies Bail to Michael Oyamo

Migori Governor Okoth Obado's personal assistant Michael Oyamo was on Monday denied bail during his case hearing at the Homa Bay Law Court over the abduction and death of Sharon Otieno.

The court ruled that the aide, who is one of the suspect's in the murder case, will remain in custody awaiting charges on Tuesday.

Oyamo was arrested last week and was being held at the Homa Bay Police Station before being arraigned in court on Monday alongside eight other suspects.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Tom Imbali requested for an extra 10 days for the prosecution team to complete their investigations pointing out that DNA samples were still being analysed.

Mr Oyamo’s defence counsel opposed the request stating that the prosecution had been given enough time to conduct their investigation hence their client should not be required to be in police custody for the set days.

According to Oyamo’s lawyers, DNA samples were obtained from him illegally while in police custody.

Present during the hearing was Homa Bay Town Constituency MP Peter Kaluma and Sharon’s parents.

A former Member of County Assembly was on Sunday arrested after being linked to the death of the Rongo University student.

Former Kanyadoto MCA Lawrence Mula spent the night at the police station as investigations into the murder deepened.

Marius Tum, who is the Homa Bay County Police Commander, stated that the former lawmaker would be arraigned in court on Monday together with Oyamo who is the prime suspect in the case.

Nation journalist Barrack Oduor who was abducted together with Sharon claimed that Mula introduced him to Governor Obado.

Detectives widened their investigation and calls to anonymous numbers allegedly made by Oyamo before Ms Otieno's body was found, were also analysed.
