Raila Odinga Pays Last Respects to Koffi Annan in Ghana

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday paid his last respects to former United Nations (UN) Secretary General Koffi Annan in Accra, Ghana.

Odinga viewed Annan's body at the Accra International Conference Centre and spent some moments in thought.

Annan's coffin was draped in red, green and gold; the colours of the Ghanaian flag.

Annan's story is intertwined with Kenya's where he led an intervention in 2007 following the disputed Presidential election pitting incumbent Mwai Kibaki against Raila Odinga.

As post-poll violence ravaged the country leaving thousands dead and many more displaced, Annan arrived in Nairobi with the backing of various global bodies.

He managed to broker the deal that led to formation of the Grand Coalition Government, pulling Kenya from the edge of the precipice.

Annan died in Switzerland after a short illness at the age of 80.

His body was flown back from Switzerland on Monday ahead of a state funeral and private burial on Thursday.

Other leaders in Accra for the funeral include Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka representing President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ford-K Party Leader Moses Wetangula.

Heads of State and other leaders from across the globe are expected in Accra for the diplomat's send-off.

Annan's body will remain at Accra Conference Centre until the burial ceremony that will take place at Burma Camp military cemetery.
