Three officers sustained gunshot wounds during a surprise attack by suspected armed Pokot bandits in Ramacha, Baringo South.
Confirming the incident, Arabal Location Chief William Koech that the officers; two police reservists and one rapid deployment unit officer were ambushed on Saturday while accompanying area residents.
"The officers were conducting normal border patrols when the armed bandits laid ambush and shot in the air around 2 pm," he told journalists.
He added that the injured were taken to Baringo county Referral Hospital in Karbarnet town for treatment.
The Saturday incident is only the latest in a string of attacks that have resulted in major losses.
It comes days after a Tugen herder was shot and injured even as Rift Valley commissioner Mongo Chimwanga termed the renewed attacks as rumours.
Narrating his ordeal, Elijah Aengwo (30) stated that he was tortured by the raiders in Chemoe area who made away with 100 goats.
He was alone at the time the five attackers pounced on him
"I didn’t carry my gun that day. I was only armed with a bow and arrows. They tied me up, then ordered me to keep silent as I led them towards Tiaty.
“After piercing my ribs with sharp objects and heaping stones on my head at around 11 PM, they stripped me naked and left me for dead at Kiboluk in Kositei, Tiaty,” Aengwo added.
