One Killed as Police Importers Are Attacked by Villagers in Homa Bay

A gang of police imposters who have been terrorizing Homa Bay county residents has lost one of its members in an attack by members of the public.

One of the alleged police imposters was lynched while the other six escaped after injuring a pastor in Homa during the weekend.

The deceased, identified as Elisha Otieno, 38, was killed by a mob near Rodi Kopany Township on Saturday night.

Otieno was in the company of his six colleagues who claim to be police officers conducting patrols in civilian attire when they robbed a pastor in the area, an incident that irked the locals.

The thugs reportedly attacked Pastor Dan Nyanje of Rodi Baptist Church while on his way home after seeing off guests and ordered him to surrender all his possessing.

Pastor Nyanje suffered severe injuries in the attack that left him nursing deep cuts on both hands and injuries on various parts of his body.

Nyanje had tried to escape by running towards a nearby school compound but was overpowered by the thieves who attacked him with a machete.

The area Chief Fredrick Okango told The Standard that "the clergyman discovered that the gangsters were armed with crude weapons. He attempted to run but they overpowered him.”

One of the preacher's neighbours also lost his belongings to the gangsters.

"The mob realized that the suspect was not a police officer as he purported.  He was killed before his body was set ablaze. I liaised with police who took his body to Homa Bay County referral hospital mortuary,” stated the chief.
