Senior Magistrate Caroline Kemei's Kidnapped Daughter Maribel Kapolon Found Dead

The decomposing body of a nine-year-old girl, a daughter of Githongo Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Ms Caroline Kemei has been retrieved from Gitoro Forest in Meru County.

The schoolgirl was reported missing on September 6 this year in an alleged abduction scheme as she walked home after alighting from a school bus.

According to witnesses, the girl, Maribel Kapolon was in the company of three other pupils when unknown persons called her into their car before driving away.

Police officers privy to details of the incident told The Standard that a man claiming to be her uncle had spoken to the girl on her way home on the day before her disappearance.

"A day before her kidnap, someone claimed to be her uncle. Another man then called her the following day and she ran towards him and we assume she knew him," stated an officer investigating the matter.

On Saturday, police officers were informed of a decomposing body found at Gitoro Forest and it was confirmed to be that of Maribel.

According to the officers who collected her body from the scene, she was still in her school uniform and in one shoe.

DCI boss George Kinoti on Monday confirmed that a suspect had been arrested in connection to the murder that has been linked to a possible domestic row.

“We suspect a domestic issue that led to this. We are interrogating one suspect,” stated Kinoti.

Maribel was a pupil at Consolata Primary in Meru.
