Kenyan Runner Conseslus Kipruto Involved in Accident

3000m Steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto was involved in a grisly accident along Eldoret-Kapsabet road.

Reports stated that the 23-year-old Olympic and world champion escaped unhurt in the accident which happened when his luxury SUV hit a tractor near the Eldoret International Airport.

Kipruto and other occupants who were in the vehicle emerged unhurt while the car was towed to the Langas Police Station.

According to a source quoted by SPN News, Conseslus was driving the vehicle when it rammed into the tractor which caused the latter's tyre to deflate and broke its centre bolt.

"We have not managed to tow the tractor to the police station since the rear wheel assembly was damaged by the impact. It was shocking to my officers who were at the scene that no one was injured but the SUV caused such damage on a bigger vehicle," the officer was quoted by the publication.

"Conseslus did not report to the station but we took custody of his vehicle and his aides came to process the paperwork. Rudisha arrived at the scene and assisted his colleague. We are waiting for Conseslus to come to the station," he added.

Last month, Kipruto stunned the world when he won the Diamond League in Zurich running in one shoe.

In a dramatic show in the Swiss city, Kipruto’s shoe came off after only 1 minute 24 seconds into the race, and for the remaining six minutes and 54 seconds, the Kenyan runner manoeuvred the track in one shoe to the amusement of fellow contestants and spectators alike.

Speaking after the hard-earned win, the Olympic steeplechase champion indicated: “It motivated me to fight as hard as I could and the race went well.”

The accident came barely a month after a road crash along the same road at Lessos that claimed the life of Beijing 2015 world men 400m Hurdles champion, Nicholas Bett.

Kipruto is one of the star athletes who played a critical role in according Bett a heroic send-off following the tragedy which killed him on the spot.
