Polycarp Igathe Appointed Equity Bank Managing Director

Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe was on Thursday named the Managing Director of Equity Bank.

His appointment marked the completion of the Group’s strategy of separating the management of its subsidiaries from that of the Holding Company.

Founder of Equity bank Dr. James Mwangi assumed the role of Group Chief Executive and Managing Director where he will provide an overall strategic direction and oversight to the Group.

He stated that Igathe was the right person for the position who will bring the company the desired results.

“We believe he has the skills, competence, capability and vision to retain Equity Bank Kenya in its leadership position while taking it to the next level,” remarked Mwangi.

This comes after Igathe joined the bank as the Chief Commercial Officer at Equity Group Holdings after he resigned as the deputy governor of Nairobi in January.

The businessman's appointment was approved alongside that of Julius Kayaboke as the Group Customer Experience and Product Management Director.

“Am lucky and thrilled to join an outstanding and exceptional team of professionals at the iconic Equity Group Holdings Plc. renowned for delivery of socio-economic prosperity in Africa.” stated Igathe.

The appointments were part of the bank’s focus on attraction, retention and development of talent meant to drive the group's socio-economic transformation agenda through innovation and delivery of new services to its customer base.

Mwangi lauded the executives for their broad and deep knowledge, experience, networks and relationships across the Eastern African private sector.
