DPP Reveals Charge Migori Governor Okoth Obado Will Be Slapped With

The office of Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji revealed that Migori Governor Okoth Obado will on Monday be charged with the murder of Sharon Otieno at the High Court in Nairobi.

In a statement, the DPP’s office on Sunday stated Obado will face the charge of aiding and abetting the commission of murder.

The Migori County boss will be charged alongside his personal assistants Michael Oyamo and Caspal Ojwang Obiero.

DPP Haji was reported to have directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to ensure that the hitmen and other persons who had been mentioned in the case are arrested.

The State was treating Obado as the first accused in the murder of the Rongo University student after reviewing a series of leads and confessions of suspects in custody linking him to the crime.

Detectives reviewing the case got statements from three suspects who allegedly linked Obado to the murder.

A driver who was believed to have been at the scene of the crime was alleged to have provided the key missing link which could be part of the evidence presented in court.

Reports by the Daily Nation claimed that there were flaws in Obado's earlier statement which is why detectives summoned him again on Friday.

Investigators also plan to use detailed mobile phone data — including phone calls, messages and location — of the suspects to prove movement and motive.

The governor was reported to have been in constant communication with key suspects, most of whom were his close allies.

An analysis of his phone records and a range of forensic tests further convinced investigators that the governor who was now a suspect should be locked up.
