Rio Ferdinand to Visit Kenya

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is set to visit Kenya in a tour that will enable him to mentor young talents in the country.

The former defender will carry out clinics with the objective of giving coaching tips for young footballers playing at the grass root level.

Ferdinand, who currently works as a pundit during different matches, will mingle with football fans at selected entertainment joints in Nairobi.

The 39-year-old former international moved to the "Red Devil’s" from Leeds United for a British record fee of £29 million (Sh3 billion) in 2002.

He also played for Bournemouth and Queens Park Rangers(QPR) in the English Premier League.

At United, he became one of the best defenders in his position following an impressive partnership with Serbian International Nemanja Vidic whom they led the club to several titles including the prestigious Uefa Champions League in 2008.

Apart from his club career, Ferdinand also represented his country during the 2002 and the 2006 Fifa World Cups.

His career was also marred with a few bumps one notably being his eight months suspension and fine by the Football Association for missing a regular drugs test.

“I never once didn't accept responsibility for that drug test. I've always accepted full responsibility. I should have gone to the test, but I genuinely forgot. My excuse was a simple excuse and people are still picking on it, but I'm sorry, that's the truth, that's what happened. I forgot,” stated Ferdinand.

The gifted footballer retired from professional football in 2015 after playing his final match for QPR.

He will become one of the few international footballers to visit Kenya after the likes of Thierry Henry and Robbert Di Matteo.
