Kalonzo Musyoka: You Can Avoid Paying Tax

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has told Kenyans that tax avoidance is completely lawful according to the Kenyan Constitution.

Speaking at the launch of Andersen Tax launch, Mr. Musyoka urged Kenyans to exploit all loopholes available in order to pay less taxes.

The Wiper leader stated that only tax evasion is unlawful and can lead to a jail term.

"I'm a lawyer by profession and I know tax avoidance is within the law while tax evasion is not allowed," stated Musyoka according to The Star.

Kalonzo further revealed that tax avoidance is the proper grouping of a person’s financial income to reduce tax payable yet tax evasion is the illegal non-payment or underpayment of tax.

He, however, noted that the country is going through rough economic times and hoped that the condition ends soon.

This comes at a time when the Finance Bill has been passed into law introducing an 8 per cent levy on all petroleum products subsequently increasing the prices of numerous other products.

Kalonzo advised all taxpayers to seek financial advice for the purpose of reducing the levy.

The state seeks to raise more than Ksh 130 billion in taxation to ensure that his spending plans are right on track.

The bill also introduced new taxation to mobile money transfer services, the housing fund, sugar confectioneries and betting firms.
