Seasoned journalist Terryanne Chebet has addressed rumours that she was among the group of friends of Citizen TV's Jacque Maribe who were summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Chebet confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that a post on Facebook was indeed hers, where she opened up on the claims that she had been summoned.
"It has come to my attention that I have been allegedly summoned by DCI in connection to my friend Jacque's arrest," the post read in part.
"First I would like to clarify that DCI has not reached out to me and I have only read about it online. While I am not involved in the unfortunate events, I understand that by virtue of being Jacque's friend, I may be called upon as a character witness. Should I be called upon, I am available," the statement added.
Reports had alleged that Hot 96 radio presenter Shiks Kapyenga, Terryanne Chebet and Monica Kiragu, a news director at Citizen TV were expected to record their statements on Tuesday.
Accounts doing rounds on social media claimed that the three were expected to tell detectives what they know about the relationship between Maribe and Joseph Irungu and the connection of the couple to the murder of Monica Kimani.
On Monday, Maribe was arraigned in court and detained for 10 more days to allow police to conduct further investigations into the murder.
Her fiancé Irungu, the main suspect in the murder, was last week presented before Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate Stella Atambo who allowed police to detain him for 10 more days as they investigate the matter.
Irungu, Maribe, and their mutual friend Brian Kassaine, in whose house detectives found a gun hidden in the ceiling, are the suspects in police custody so far.
Among those who were in court included her father only identified as Mwangi and her mother, who broke down when the journalist was bundled into a police car.
