Education Ministry Cancels Annual Leave for Officers

The Education Ministry has cancelled annual leave for all officers taking part in the national exam period.

The ministry, in its order, directed that all annual leave applications from exam officers be cancelled until the end of the exam period.

In a circular to regional directors, the Education department states that this will ensure that they focus more on invigilation.

The decision will also make sure they are more stringent and vigilant during this period.

The administration of the examinations will be stringent more than ever before as stated by the Cabinet Secretary,” the circular reads.

Rehearsals for those in Form 4 are expected to start on November 2 with the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations set to kick off on November 5.

Class 8 candidates are set to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations from October 30 to November 1.

As preparations for the national examinations enter the final leg, details have emerged of how the government has deployed officials posing as parents in a bid to nab cheating syndicates in schools.

A report released following a closed-door meeting presided over by Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang implicated at least 30 high school principals with aiding parents to illegally acquire examination papers.

The Education Ministry deployed officials posing as parents to attend prayer day meetings in schools to gather intelligence on how the cheating was being planned.
