Instagram Stops Working

Instagram on Wednesday stopped working, with users unable to see other's pictures or profiles.

Users were instead met with empty profiles and a message that the app "cannot refresh feed".

The web version of the app also had problems with users being met with a "5xx Server Error".

Independent website monitor, Down Detector, showed a surge of issues with users unable to access or use the app.

Down Detector is an independent website which tracks social mentions around certain topics to detect outages across the globe.

This isn't the first time Instagram left users without access to the app in the past few months.

Instagram was hit by a number of outages including one on exactly the same day last month and also in May and July.

The problems come amid a difficult time for Instagram as the company's two founders left in recent days amid rumours that it disagreed with Facebook over how the company should be run.

And after the Facebook hack was revealed over the weekend, it emerged that Instagram users and accounts might also have been caught up in it if they had used their Facebook log-in to create their Instagram account.

It's not thought that those issues have anything to do with the current outage.

Update:
