Flight operations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shall be grounded for close to 12 hours during the two-day visit by US First Lady Melania Trump.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced that the JKIA Terminal Two will be closed shut down temporarily during the arrival and departure of Ms Trump.
Ms Trump shall be in Nairobi for a two-day visit in line with the United States’ support for early-childhood education, wildlife conservation, and HIV prevention.
On Thursday evening, the terminal for International arrivals shall be closed from 5:30 p.m to 9:00 p.m and on Saturday from midnight to 9 am.
The Thursday's closer shall last for more than three hours while the services shall be affected for close to nine hours throughout the night to mid-morning hours on Sunday.
"During this time all the domestic flight operations handled at T2 will be handled at JKIA’s Terminal 1D. Terminal 1E (T1E) will be used for International Arrivals and Terminal 1B (T1B) FOR International departures,” announced KAA in a statement.
Security checks have been more intense this week and passengers have been asked to be at JKIA at least three hours before departure time to allow enough time for airport security checks.
Mrs Trump will visit five areas in Nairobi and shall be part of the audience to watch a performance by Sarakasi dancers at the Kenya National Theatre onn Friday.
At the Theatre, Mrs Trump shall be joined by Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec.
