KRU Names New Kenya Sevens Coach

Homeboyz RFC Coach Paul Murunga was on Friday unveiled as the new Kenya Sevens Head Coach, taking over from Innocent 'Namcos' Simiyu.

Mwamba Rugby head coach Kevin “Bling” Wambua will serve as Murunga's Assistant.

Murunga deputized former Head Coach Benjamin Ayimba during the 2015 and 2016 series.

It was during this time that the team made history by winning its first ever World Rugby tournament, the Singapore Sevens.

A World Rugby Level II coach, Murunga led Homeboyz to National Sevens Series victories in 2016 and 2018.

Twice he guided the club's 15s side to the Kenya Cup semi-finals as well as an Enterprise Cup victory.

He also coached the Kenya Under-20 side for seven years between 2007 and 2014 and is a former Kenya 15s international.

At club level, Murunga featured for KCB between 2005-2009, winning two Kenya Cup titles in 2006 and 2009 as Captain.

He then left for Homeboyz Rugby which had just been established.

Murunga previously played for the now defunct Ulinzi Rugby between 2001 and 2004.
