Two Police Officers Injured by Touts in Juja

Police officers in Juja are looking for a group of matatu touts who attacked and seriously injured two officers on Saturday afternoon.

The officers attached to Witeithie AP post were at a local eating joint when a group of youth suspected to be matatu touts rushed in and began attacking them.

The unarmed officers sustained injuries in the attack whose motive has not been established yet.

On Friday, police in the area reportedly arrested youth at Witeithie bus stop, an incident that has been linked to the possible reiteration by the touts.

One of the officers in injured in the attack reported that he lost his phone during the ordeal with the rowdy youth who openly declared that they were in the matatu industry and could not fear the police.

Injured officers were evacuated from the eatery in a police vehicle after they were rescued by their colleagues.

Following the attack, a swoop led by Witeithie AP post boss, Inspector James Dawai was conducted leading to the arrest of several touts since Saturday.

This comes at a time government is seeking to have police officers live with members of the public away from the norm where officers reside in police lines, close to their workstations.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in September announced that officers will be required to independently seek private tenancy to live amongst other members of the public but shall be provided house allowances commensurate with the market rates.

Officers have already been informed to prepare for the changes in what is anticipated to be a possible police-community relationship changer.
