At least 49 passengers died on Wednesday morning after a bus they were travelling in rolled over along the Kisumu-Muhoroni highway at Fort Tenan area in Kericho.
Fort Tenan Police Station OCS Charles Ocharo confirmed details of the grisly accident saying the bus was heading to Kisumu from Nairobi when it veered off a flyover, rolling several times.
The cause of the accident is still unclear, even as rescue efforts continue.
The 67-seater bus is said to have veered off the road while descending a steep slope. The bus then hit a guardrail, rolled and plunged down about 20 metres.
Eyewitnesses report that the accident happened at about 5:00 a.m.
