DP William Ruto Promises Ksh50 Million Reward to Harambee Stars

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday promised a bonus of Ksh50 million to national football team Harambee Stars if they win the match against Ethiopia on Sunday.

He has also revealed that all Ksh25 million allowances due to the national team have been disbursed.

The squad has received overwhelming support for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers tie on Sunday, October 14.

The Cabinet Secretary in charge of sports Rashid Echesa announced that entry into Kasarani Stadium will be free in a move to encourage Kenyans to show up and cheer for the team.

"I wish to announce that entry into the stadium at Kasarani will be free of charge to allow Kenyans cheer their team to victory,” declared Echesa.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko offered to provide free transport in the form of 150 buses for fans within the city as well as a Ksh3 million cash reward.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, nominated Senator Millicent Omanga confirmed that she will also provide 100 buses to ferry fans from designated pick up point in the county’s wards.

If Harambee Stars win the upcoming fixture, they will automatically advance to AFCON in Cameroon after failing to qualify for the last 14 years.

On October 10, Stars were held by hosts Ethiopia to a barren draw in the match in which Ethiopians packed to the brim the 60,000-capacity Bahir Dar Stadium.

The national team coach had threatened to quit if the Federation of Kenyan Football did not pay his delayed salary.
