President Uhuru Kenyatta Meets Fredah Shibonje The Midwife Who Helped Birth Him

President Uhuru Kenyatta met the lady who helped his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta give birth to him.

Uhuru met Fredah Shibonje, who is a member of the Nursing Council of Kenya, at the Kakamega State Lodge after the 2018 Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Shibonje was the midwife on duty the day President Kenyatta was born at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on October 26, 1961.

She was gleaming with happiness as she shook the hands of the man she had no idea would ascend to the highest office in the land.

In the past, the nurse who is now retired has been quoted by journalists expressing her wishes to meet the president one day.

"Whenever I see President Kenyatta on television screens, memories of the day I witnessed his birth come flooding back into my mind,” stated Shibonje.

"As a mother, I have been praying and hoping that one day I will get the opportunity to meet him and shake his hand,” she added.

During an interview with the Daily Nation, she described Uhuru’s mother as a calm mother who barely said a word to the medical attendants.

Shibonje recalled that “She (the President's mother) was a very reserved person and said very little, making it difficult to start a conversation with her. But we got along without difficulty since all I had to do was to ensure she was comfortable during her stay at the maternity unit.”

She also revealed that Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was in the company of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga on the day Mama Ngina was admitted before she gave birth to the country’s 4th President.
