Nigerian Presidency Urges Kenya to Investigate Its Citizen’s Death

The Nigerian Presidency has called for an investigation by the Kenyan Government into the death of its citizen who was studying in Kenya.

The slain student identified as Mr. Bamiyo Ashade, died on Monday last week after he was allegedly “brutalized at his house in Four Ways Estate, Kiambu.”

The report further stated that prior to his passing, he had been extorted by Kenyan police officers despite them finding out he had valid papers to reside in the country as a student.

The Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that the Kenyan Government should carry out a full autopsy and investigations of the body.

According to a report issued by Media Aid to Dabiri-Erewa, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, it was noted that the killing had been contained in the briefing by Nigerian Ambassador to Kenya, Sheidu Momoh.

In view of the foregoing, we appeal to the Kenya Government to conduct a thorough investigation into the gruesome killing of this young Nigerian and bring the perpetrators to justice accordingly,” Stated Dabiri-Erewa as reported by a Nigerian news outlet.

The deceased is reported to have fallen to his death from the eighth floor of his estate because he had feared being arrested by the police.

On Wednesday, October 17, a section of Nigerians living in Kenya held a peaceful protest in Nairobi at the Nigerian High Commission demanding that justice is served for the death of one of their nationals.

The protesters had also claimed that four other Nigerians had died unfairly in Kenya in a period of one month.

They blamed their embassy over incompetence and laxity in matters affecting their community. Our calls to the embassy for comment went answered.
