Conservationist Dr Ali Kaka has been honoured with the Knights Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary award, which is the second highest honour in that country.
He received the prize for his outstanding contribution towards marine conservation and establishment of Rhino sanctuaries.
The prize further acknowledged Dr Kaka’s work for the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation, which has its Headquarters in Hungary.
Speaking while receiving the award at the Hungary Embassy in Kenya, he applauded the Hungarian government for recognizing his efforts.
Ali added that the award signified the strides Kenya has achieved in conserving both her environment and wildlife.
Dr Kaka, who currently advises the Ministry on Wildlife, stated that he will dedicate the award to conservationists who have died in the line of duty.
He has a qualified background in Protected Areas Management and has worked in the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
He has also managed marine PAs and advised on Policy development in several Eastern and Southern African countries
Ali is currently the Vice President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the largest umbrella organization for nature conservation organizations in the world.
Recently he moderated discussions at the European Union - Africa Dialogue on the 6th of March 2018 at the European Parliament.
