IPOA Launches Investigation After Police Kill 6 Suspected Thugs in Dandora

A new probe has been launched into the police following the killing of six suspected thugs in Dandora, Nairobi on Sunday.

It was announced by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) that an investigation would seek to establish the facts of the matter.

"IPOA has launched Investigations into the shooting of 6 people by police in Dandora on Sunday.

IPOA is also probing the death of 3 people shot by police in Yatta last Tuesday. The law requires deaths caused by police action be investigated," their statement issued on Monday read in part.

Six suspected gangsters were gunned down and were claimed to have been involved in an attack on a boda-boda rider that saw the passenger, a woman, gang-raped.

A police report indicates that the assailants allegedly struck as the boda boda was on its way from Dandora to Lucky Summer estate at around 2.30 am.

The gang members were said to have been armed with handguns.

"They robbed them at gunpoint, of properties that included the motorcycle registration KMEL 650 F, mobile phones, a handbag and cash.

"After the robbery, they blindfolded the rider and gang-raped the woman before escaping," the report read.

Police traced the motorcycle through a device fitted on it to Gitwamba, Dandora where they encountered armed suspects and a shoot-out ensued.

One of the victims positively identified the assailants.

All items belonging to the victims were also recovered at the location.

The lady was taken to MSF hospital.
