NTSA Announces Deregistration of 7 Saccos

National Transport and Safety Authroity (NTSA) on Wednesday announced the de-registration of PSV licenses for seven Saccos interconnecting various towns in the country.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the authority revealed that the Saccos had violated the law.

The seven Saccos include Molo Shuttle Sacco, Nairobi Kiruline Services, Gakanago Sacco, New Lowland Sacco, Hannover Commercial Enterprise, Newlot Sacco and Peja Travellers Limited.

Following the violations of provisions 5(1) of the National Transport and Safety Authority (operation of PSV) regulations 2014, the following seven Transport Operators were deregistered from operating with immediate effect from 13th September, 2018” read the notice dated October 30, 2018.

The Molo Shuttle Sacco vehicles ply the Nairobi-Nakuru-Olenguruone-Kisii road while those of Nairobi Kiruline Services ply the Nairobi-Muranga-Othaya-Nyeri-Nyahururu.

New Lowland Sacco services the Nakuru, Marigat and Kabarnet town.

The authority further warned road users to take note of the blacklisted saccos.

According to the Transport Act revised in 2014, all public service vehicles are supposed to belong to one body corporate which is expected to have at least 30 serviceable vehicles.

"The corporate shall have in its employment a staff complement which must include at a minimum - (i) a driver in respect to each public service vehicle; (ii) an inspector for each route on which the public service vehicle is intended to operate; (iii) an office manager; (iv) an accounts clerk; and (v) a qualified mechanic or a contract under which the services of a mechanic are outsourced." reads a section of the act.

The body is also expected to have a code of conduct approved by NTSA designed to govern employees, agents and Sub-contractors with a documented management system, safety management system and a customer complaints handling system.
