Brave Officer Who Pursued Armed Thugs Alone Awarded by Matiang'i

Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i on Friday awarded Administration Police Constable Joash Ombati for his heroic action after he single-handedly rescued a man from armed robbers.

The CS awarded Ombati with a Distiguish Service Award certificate for the act of performing his duty against the odds that faced him.

In October, the AP reacted to an incident where a man was thrown out of a moving vehicle by two gangsters in Westlands.

Ombati decided to pursue the two people using a taxi and intercepted them at the junction in the area.

The officer fired eight rounds of ammunition without injuring anyone and managed to recover Ksh 400,000 from a reported Ksh732,000 payout.

Police reports indicated that the victim, Amos Charo Saro, had gone to Nairobi from Voi in search of cheap construction materials deal he had made with a seller he met on OLX website.

The two suspects, Sameer Abdulaziz Kassim and Peter Kavoi Musili, were apprehended and taken to Parklands Police Station.

The officer, after the incident, stated that he was pleased to have carried out his duty.

"If I could have ignored the thieves, then it means that I'm being paid to do zero work? In that case, I should just leave my work and go home and look after cows," remarked Ombati.

The Toyota KBJ used by the criminals was recovered during the rescue mission.
