President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP William Ruto to Tour Coast Region

President Uhuru Kenyatta's third week of November 2018 lists a tour of the coastal region where he is expected to launch several projects in the company of his Deputy William Ruto.

The head of state will, starting Monday, November 19, 2018, initiate a campaign aimed at encouraging Kenyans to eat more fish so as to boost the industry.

According to State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, the initiative dubbed Eat More Fish Campaign is intended to encourage more dietary intake of fish across the nation.

The President's visit to the coast is aligned to the sidelines of the preparations of Blue Economy Conference to be held in Mombasa.

Over 4,000 participants from around the world will converge in Mombasa to discuss the potential of oceans, seas, lakes and rivers in improving the lives of the people in developing countries.

President Uhuru will be launching the Kenya Coast Guard Service that shall have its headquarters in Liwatoni. The service will help save an estimated Ksh10 billion lost through illegal fishing.

During the tour, Uhuru shall also commission MV Doria. The vessel will be used by the Kenya Coast Guard Service to patrol the Indian Ocean.

The service will also be responsible for enforcing maritime security and safety, pollution control and sanitation measures as well as the prosecution of offenders.

President Uhuru on Wednesday announced having appointed Vincent Naisho to head the service.

In the same week, the president and his deputy shall deliver a charter to the Bandari College at Mikanjuni, Mombasa. The institution runs under the Kenya Ports Authority.

They will also commission the Kenya Sea Fares Program during the coast tour.
