Jowie Irungu Applies for Recusal of Justice Wakiaga Over “Woman Eater” Label

Jowie Irungu has embarked on a mission of shaking off the “woman eater” tag labelled on him by High Court judge James Wakiaga.

In a letter to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) headed by Chief Justice David Maraga, Jowie denied ever "eating a woman or any human being at all".

He further demanded that Justice Wakiaga recuses himself from the case for denying him bail and instead labelling him a “woman Eater.” A term he wondered if it generally categorised women as only items to be consumed by men.

By describing me as a woman-eater, the judge abused his position and compounded the female gender to be nothing less than items to be eaten which is quite foul, degrading coming from a sitting judge,” read the letter as reported by People Daily.

He further accused the judge of robbing him of his innocent until proven guilty right and that of his societal standing and demanded that he be dismissed from the commission as well.

Indeed the judge used the most uncouth, derogatory and injudicious language against me as being a male version of a slay queen.” he added.

Jowie further questioned the judge’s integrity demanding that disciplinary action be taken against him.

I submit that disciplinary action is taken against him including finding that he is not fit to serve as a judge of the High Court so that a process for his removal be undertaken to rid the Judiciary of personnel such as him who bring the institution into disrepute,” he noted.

Jowie’s application for bail was denied while that of his co-accused, Jacque Maribe, was approved by justice Wakiaga. She was released on a Kshs2 million cash bail.

They both pleaded not guilty to the murder of the slain Monica Kimani.
