A new study has ranked Kenya as the most generous country in Africa and number eight globally in giving.
The study by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) World Giving Index for 2018 presents giving data from across the globe over a five year period (2013-2017).
The aim of the CAF World Giving Index is to provide insight into the scope and nature of giving around the world.
CAF looked into three aspects of giving behaviour that is helping a stranger, donating money and volunteering time.
To get the score index for each nation, a combined average proportion of the three aspects.
In terms of helping a stranger, Kenya scored 72 %, 46 % for donating money and 45 % for volunteering time.
Overall Kenya scored 54% from this data.
Nigeria comes second in Africa at 48 % followed closed by Liberia at 47 %.
Globally, Indonesia tops the list with the most generous people on earth followed by Australia and New Zealand.
World Giving Index offers a unique glimpse of global trends in generosity, giving answers to questions about where people are most likely to engage in pro-social activities and to champion the growth of growing giving.
However, it does not state what factors are driving the growth in generosity, nor does it highlight the barriers which need to be removed to unleash it, nor does it aim to.
