Speaker Justin Muturi Orders Final Summoning of CS Fred Matiang’i

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Wednesday threatened that the House will deal with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for snubbing summons.

The infuriated speaker directed the National Security Committee to summon Matiang’i to appear before it without fail or let the house deal with him.

Summon the CS, failure to which the House can deal with him. We can drag him to the House. We cannot entertain a situation where 60 questions remain unanswered,” remarked Speaker Muturi.

The CS has so far snubbed two summons to the committee chaired by MP Paul Koinange where he is expected to answer 60 questions.

Other MPs are enraged with the rampant cases of Cabinet Secretaries vehemently skipping parliamentary summons. They appealed to the speaker to let them impeach one as a lesson to others.

Allow us to impeach one CS as a lesson. Matiang’i is not a super CS. The best thing is to bring an impeachment motion against the Cabinet Secretary. It is this House which vets and approves them,” stated Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.

Other MPs supported him with his Kisumu West counterpart Olago Aluoch calling for tough action against those who ignore the summons.

The MPs, however, postponed Matiang’i’s summon one last time to next week without which they vowed to initiate his impeachment process.

Among the questions the CS is expected to answer is why prisons are still dilapidated despite the state allocating funds to the sector.

We are concerned that the Interior CS and PS for the second time have failed to appear before us. We have resolved to summon him next week and if he fails to come, then he will face the consequences,” Koinange threatened.
