Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome broke down while addressing a press conference on the killing of a young boy in Murang’a County.
Wahome was sharing the findings of a postmortem conducted on the body of 15-year-old Juliano Kanyonyo who was found murdered on Monday.
She revealed that the pathologists had established that the boy was killed by a heavy blow to the head using a blunt object.
Juliano was allegedly murdered by an illegal gang after his mother refused to give the members a chicken after he underwent a traditional rite of passage.
He died under the care of a mentor, who turned away the mother after she failed to find a hen with a talon at the back of its foot.
Kikuyu tradition demands that whenever a man undergoes an initiation rite, he must produce several cocks and cigarettes to older men welcoming him into manhood.
According to the MP, illegal gangs such as Mungiki, 42 brothers, Usiku Sacco, and Gaza recruiting newly circumcised men in the county.
Church leaders condemned the murder as the family announced that they would be pursuing justice for the slain boy.
On Wednesday, Kandara police boss Wilson Kosgey said police were pursuing the four suspects who visited the initiate.
The police boss decried the rising cases of bullying of initiates in Kandara, saying that another was recuperating in hospital after his ‘advisers’ poisoned him, during a similar ordeal.
