Police fired teargas on Tuesday in an attempt to disperse a large group of Moi University students who blocked a section of the Eldoret-Nakuru highway in a major protest against the school's management.
Students at the Moi University Annex Campus in Uasin Gishu county demonstrated against alleged mismanagement of the institution as Fourth Year students, in particular, spoke out against missing marks in various examinations that had delayed their graduation.
The enraged students demanded immediate action from the university's Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Kosgey who replaced Prof. Laban Ayiro in March 2018.
The students carried placards bearing various messages as they sang variations of the 'Comrades Power' chant.
A Fourth Year student who was among the demonstrators spoke to Kenyans.co.ke explaining why the students resorted to blocking traffic on the busy highway just outside Eldoret town.
"It's like these people don't want us to graduate on purpose. We want our marks!
"Why are they keeping us in school when we have done the exams? We have paid fees. What is the problem?" an enraged Shem Otieno posed.
Police arrived on the scene as cars started building up, with the students vowing not to move until their concerns were addressed.
Running battles began after teargas was fired sending the students scampering for safety.
The students vowed to continue with the protests until they were provided with concrete solutions by the administration.
