ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru on Thursday ordered Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to probe adult sites on Kenyan internet sphere.
The CS asked the authority to look into filtering the pornographic websites’ content.
He further explained that the move would help the state deal with the rising cases of teenage pregnancy that had marred the recently concluded Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
He further praised Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) boss George Magoha’s demand that all the porn sites be blocked in Kenya.
“For those asking...here is the request from the good Professor,” wrote Mucheru on social media alongside a screenshot of a report about the KNEC boss’ statement.
In his speech on Wednesday, Prof Magoha also blamed authorities and parents alike for not talking to their girls enough about family planning.
“Getting pregnant when you are not ready is primitive and a sign of moral decadence and negligence from parents,” stated Magoha.
While calling for the re-introduction of sex education in schools, the tough-talking professor also accused some authorities of encouraging the behaviour terming it as a process of multiplying to fill the earth.
According to a recent research by the United Nations Populations Fund, more than 378,000 teenage girls fell pregnant between July 2016 and June 2017.
In 2018, more than 14,000 teenagers were reportedly pregnant in Kilifi County alone with the original figure estimated to be higher as some went unreported.
