President Uhuru's Trip to Nyanza Excites Residents

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to visit Kisumu next week to lead the official launch of the pilot phase of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program.

The visit will be Uhuru’s first official function in Kisumu since the March 9 handshake, between him and

the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

A number of leaders from the region have urged the residents to welcome the President when he comes in.

Addressing worshipers at St Stephens Cathedral in Kisumu on Sunday, area Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o asserted that the county was ready to welcome the President.

Muhoroni MP Onyang K’Oyoo stated, “We appreciate his visit and he will be surprised how he will be welcomed in a region many perceive to be hostile to him.”

Siaya Senator James Orengo claimed that the President will be visiting his county to reaffirm the residents his support for Raila’s Presidential candidature in 2022.

On the other hand, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa urged the residents to welcome Uhuru for he is the bridge that will lead the Luo community to the greatest seat.

The UHC pilot will be rolled out in four counties of Kisumu, Isiolo, Nyeri and Machakos before it is finally

scaled up to cover the rest of the country.

Kisumu was identified because it leads in the infectious diseases category especially for HIV/AIDS and

tuberculosis.

The success of the pilot programme in the four counties will give clearance for a full-scale rollout of UHC ushering in a new era of public health services provision in the country.
